Hermetic Principles
Hermetic Principles
Hermeticism is a wide range of philosophical, religious, and spiritual beliefs and practices named for and based on the teachings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. This fictional figure was a combination of the elements of the Egyptian god, Thoth and the Greek god Hermes. Hermeticism in its original form referred to the idea that there is ancient wisdom (prisca theologia) that is only revealed to the ancients but survives in other systems and beliefs. The oldest hermetic texts (Corpus Hermeticum) and (Emerald Tablet) describe the place humans have in creation and the relationship between macrocosm and microcosm for affecting change (As above, so below).
For ConVocation 2026, we will explore these philosophies and how they have shaped so many practices throughout history. We invite you to explore philosophies about how humans fit into the larger cosmos, and how connecting cosmos to us and us to our actions can produce meaningful, magical change!
